Reverse-phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography of Sennosides in Cassia angustifolia

چکیده
(2) Sennoside B R S which impart strong laxative properties. Although, a number of synthetic laxatives are available, sennoside-containing preparations are still the most widely used (Atzorn et al., 1981). C. angustifolia is cultivated extensively in the Ram Nath Puram district of Tamilnadu (Husain e f al., 1992). During our crop improvement programme a quick, sensitive and accurate analytical method is required for the analysis of a large number of plant samples. Different techniques such as thin layer chromatography (TLC) (Lemmens, 1977), gas-liquid chromatography (Baars et al., 1976), radioimmunoassay (Atzorn et al., 1981) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) (Erni and Frei, 1978; Gorler

HPTLC DENSITOMETRIC QUANTIFICATION OF SENNOSIDES FROM Cassia angustifolia
The use of medicinal herbs to relieve and treat diseases is increasing because of their mild features and few side effects (Basgel and Erdemoglu, 2006). These plants are unlicensed and freely available, however, and there is no requirement to demonstrate efficacy, safety or quality (Ernst, 1998). Cassia angustifolia Vahl (Family: Caesalpinaceae), popularly known as senna, is a valuable plant dr...
متن کاملAnalysis of sennoside in drugs contained senna leaves (Cassia sp.) in Iran
Background and objectives: The importance of Cassia angustifulia is due to its laxative properties. A large number of sennosides have been reported in senna but sennoside A and B have been reported as the main causes of its properties. The present study includes the analysis of the effective ingredients of sennosides containing senna products in Iranian pharmaceutical ...
متن کاملA Modified Method for Isolation of Rhein from Senna
A simple and efficient method for the isolation of rhein from Cassia angustifolia (senna) leaves is described in which the hydrolysis of the sennosides and extraction of the hydrolysis products (free anthraquinones) is carried out in one step. Further isolation of rhein is achieved from the anthraquinone mixture. This method reduces the number of steps required for isolation of rhein as compare...
متن کاملNext Generation Sequencing and Transcriptome Analysis Predicts Biosynthetic Pathway of Sennosides from Senna (Cassia angustifolia Vahl.), a Non-Model Plant with Potent Laxative Properties
Senna (Cassia angustifolia Vahl.) is a world's natural laxative medicinal plant. Laxative properties are due to sennosides (anthraquinone glycosides) natural products. However, little genetic information is available for this species, especially concerning the biosynthetic pathways of sennosides. We present here the transcriptome sequencing of young and mature leaf tissue of Cassia angustifolia...
متن کاملHPLC Analysis of Laxative Rhein Content in Cassia fistula Fruits of Different Provenances in Thailand
The ripe fruit pulp of Cassia fistula Linn. (Fabaceace), which is locally called Khun or Ratchaphruek in Thailand, has long been used as a traditional laxative drug due to its anthraquinone glycosides constituent. Rhein is the major anthraquinone in the fruit pulp while minor constituents are aloin and sennosides. The aims of this study were to develop and validate a high performance liquid chr...
